Film Director
Film Literature
I have read a lot of books on film making and screenplay writing and I will be listing a few of them here that impressed me most.
Save the Cat - by Blake Synder
This is a book on screenplay writing that helped me write the screenplays. Blake has done some magic with this book.
Directing Feature Films - by Mark Travis
I can easily say that this is the one of the best books on film directing. There is no other book that gives a complete holistic picture of the craft as this book does. Mark Travis writes the following in his book and sums up the whole business of directing films.
In my office, and even in my car ... there are bumblebees. Not living, flying, pollinating bumblebees, but stuffed, carved, painted, glass, plastic , wooden (and even a gorgeous kite) bumblebees. I collect the bumblebees and ofcourse many people ask "why the bumblebees?"
Here is why. According to the laws of aerodynamics the bumblebees cannot fly. Its wings are too small and its body is too big. There is no way this little insect can fly, but ( and this is the key) the bumblebee does not know this. All the bumblebee knows is that he has to fly, so he does.
The next time you hear "it can't be done," "that is not the way it is done," "it has to be done this way," "that will never work," " we have always done this way and that is the way it works," or you cannot do that it's impossible" - just remember the bumblebee. And if you feel you have to fly -- then just fly.
See you at the movies.
